Love Bus Book 5: Chapter 8 — The Complete Set
The silence that followed Papa Franz’s reading of the letter stayed with us long after the words had ended. No one rushed to speak. The Bible remained open on the table, the yellowed letter resting beside it, and the rest of the treasures we had gathered, the two books of Rizal and the five flags, lay quietly around them.
For the first time, everything was in one place. Not as a collection of objects, but as a completed path.
Bernadeth sat closest to the Bible. She did not touch it again right away. She only looked at it with a kind of calm that I had not seen in her before. The excitement of discovery was gone. What remained was understanding.
Dad… kaya pala. Hindi pala dami ang importante. she said softly.
Oo, anak. Ang importante ay naiintindihan natin kung bakit sila iniwan. Papa Franz answered.
Mom reached for Bernadeth’s hand. I watched the three of them and felt the weight of the moment settle differently in my chest. We had followed clues across houses, towns, and islands. We had expected more treasures at every turn. But the final one had not given us another object to count. It had given us a voice.
That night, after the others had gone to rest, I remained in the living room. The items were still arranged on the table, the books that once awakened a nation, the flags that carried the long struggle of a people, and the Bible that held a father’s letter to the son he never got to hold. Enrico had written those words while Cecilia carried Miguel. More than a century later, those same words had been spoken aloud by Franz, the first living descendant to give them sound again.

I finally understood why the trail had been designed the way it was. The books came first so the mind would wake. The flags came next so the cost of history would be remembered. And the Bible came last so the heart would know what to do with everything that had been found. The End.

The path was complete not because we had gathered every object, but because we had finally heard the reason they were kept. Enrico’s voice had crossed time. And in that quiet room, with all the pieces before us, the long story that began before any of us were born finally felt whole.
