The Parable of the Lost Coin
Parables
As with every parable in this series,
we honor the historical setting
by using the shekel currency symbol and
the 1 shekel coin.
Josh kept the Bible open. Bernadeth was ready.
Ituloy natin, Kuya. Bernadeth said.
He moved to the next short parable in the same chapter.
Luke 15:8-10. The Parable of the Lost Coin. Josh answered.

Bernadeth read the story. A woman has ten silver coins and loses one. She lights a lamp, sweeps the house, and searches carefully until she finds it. When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her.
Hindi niya sinabi na “okay lang, may nine pa.” Talagang hinanap niya nang mabuti. Bernadeth observed.
Oo. At 'yung paghahanap niya diligent, may ilaw, may pagwawalis, may careful search. Josh continued.
They sat with the careful effort of the woman.
Parang ang point, 'yung nawala ay sapat na dahilan para mag-effort. Bernadeth added.
Tama. At may joy din kapag natagpuan, pareho sa lost sheep. Josh noted.

Why It Matters in 2026
In a fast culture that quickly moves on from what is missing, this parable slows us down. The woman does not treat the lost coin as minor. She lights a lamp and sweeps carefully. The gospel still calls people to the same careful concern for those who have wandered or been overlooked.

Bernadeth closed the Bible gently.
O Kuya, saan 'yung susunod? she asked.
Buksan mo sa Luke 18:1-8. Doon 'yung Parable of the Persistent Widow. Josh replied.

Ang nawala ay sapat na dahilan para mag-effort. 'Yung pagsisikap nating magbahagi ng Magandang Balita ay parte ng maingat na paghahanap, dahil may Diyos na nagagalak kapag may isang nagbalik.
