I am Jamila. A doll. I watch as the nursery slowly transforms into a home for the new child.
The days became calmer. Eloisa followed the doctor’s advice and rested more, but she also became more active in preparing. She folded tiny clothes, arranged diapers, and placed soft blankets in the crib. She always brought me with her.
Jamila, tingnan mo. Dito matutulog si Bernadette. Dapat malapit ka sa kanya ha?
She repaired my dress one final time, adding more golden thread. The old and new stitches now blended together beautifully. Her hands were steadier than before.
Her husband helped assemble the last pieces of furniture. They worked together, laughing occasionally. I observed how their voices sounded lighter now.
Malapit na talaga, hon. Excited na ako masyado. her husband said while kissing her cheek.
Ako din. Natatakot pa rin pero mas handa na ako ngayon. Eloisa replied with a small smile.
Every night, Eloisa would sit with me and read children’s books aloud. She practiced lullabies and spoke to Bernadette through her belly while holding me close. The kicks from inside her became very strong. Sometimes they were so powerful that I could feel them clearly against my body.
One afternoon, she placed me beside a new stuffed toy in the crib and took a photo. She smiled while looking at the image on her phone.
Perfect. Ikaw, si Bernadette, at ang mga bagong alaala natin.
The nursery was now complete. Soft curtains, warm lights, and the scent of baby powder filled the room. Eloisa stood at the door with me in her arms, looking at everything she had prepared.
Kaya ko ‘to. Para sa kanya.
She hugged me one last time before the final wait began. → story concludes in Final Chapter Live on August 30!
The room is ready. Eloisa moves with more purpose now. She added more golden thread to my dress and speaks with stronger voice. The baby inside her kicks powerfully. I observe that fear is still present, but something else, preparation and quiet strength, has grown beside it. — Jamila
