The Parable of the Yeast
Parables
As with every parable in this series,
we honor the historical setting
by using the shekel currency symbol and
the 1 shekel coin.
Bernadeth turned the page slowly. The afternoon light had shifted a little across the table.
Kuya, saan tayo ngayon? Bernadeth asked.
Josh glanced at the open Bible and smiled slightly.
Matthew 13:33. The Parable of the Yeast. Josh replied.

Bernadeth read the short verse carefully. Only a few lines. Yet the weight of it settled between them.
Ang ikli lang. Pero parang ang lalim. Bernadeth said.
Oo. Minsan 'yung pinakamaikling parable 'yung pinakamahirap kalimutan. Josh answered.
They sat with the words for a moment. A woman took yeast and mixed it into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.
Parang ang simpleng picture lang. Pero 'yung yeast, hindi mo agad napapansin. Tapos biglang buong dough na 'yung apektado. Bernadeth observed.
Exactly. Hindi kailangan maging malakas o maingay sa simula. Kahit maliit, kung tama 'yung placement, kumakalat. Josh said.

Why It Matters in 2026
In a world that celebrates big launches, loud voices, and instant results, this parable feels almost rebellious. It reminds us that real change often starts small and hidden. A quiet conversation. A single act of kindness. A seed of truth planted in someone’s heart. You may not see the effect immediately, but the yeast is already working.

Bernadeth closed the Bible gently.
Saan 'yung next, Kuya? she asked.
Buksan mo sa Matthew 13:44. Doon 'yung Parable of the Hidden Treasure. Josh replied.
