That night, after we brought the two old books home, Bernadeth could not stop turning the pages. She sat at the dining table under the soft light, carefully checking every corner of the worn paper.

I leaned closer. Between the last pages of one of the books was a thin, yellowed note. The handwriting was old and careful. It spoke of a place in the province and a man who would understand a certain password.
We read the note several times. We did not yet know how many more things were waiting for us. We only knew that the two books were not the end — they were only the beginning of a trail.
