Love Bus Book 5: Chapter 6 — The Relatives of Enrico
The address led us to a simple house. It was not grand, but it felt old in a quiet way, the kind of place that had kept its stories without needing to show them off.
An elderly woman opened the door. Behind her, an older man sat near the window. When we mentioned Enrico’s name, something in their eyes changed. They did not look surprised. They looked as if they had been waiting.
Kayo ba ang pinadala? the old woman asked carefully.
I nodded. Bernadeth stood close beside me. We were invited inside. The house smelled of wood and time. We sat across from them.
They spoke slowly. They told us they were relatives of Enrico from his mother’s side. For years they had kept something, not the final treasure itself, but the key to finding it.
Hindi namin hawak ang mismong PAMANA… pero alam namin kung nasaan ito. the old man said.
From a wooden cabinet, the elderly woman brought out a small, worn wooden box. She placed it on the table between us. It was not large. When she opened it, inside was an old folded letter and a small metal key.
Bernadeth looked at me. I looked at the letter. This was the next piece of the trail, not the TREASURE itself, but the direction toward it.
Sundan ninyo ang nakasulat. Nandiyan pa rin ang PAMANA… sa lugar na iniwan ni Enrico. the old woman said softly.
We received the box with both hands. There was no long speech. Only a quiet understanding that the final treasure was still waiting somewhere in Cebu, and this small box was the way to reach it.
When we left the house, the sun was already lower. The flags we carried and this new wooden box now traveled with us together. The trail had grown clearer, and more alive.
