Book of Matthew 1:1-16 English po, ESV
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king.
And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel,d and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.
Mapapansin, highlighted na ang pangalan ng apat na Ina, at ang isa ay sinabing Asawa ni Uriah, sa modern thinking ngayong mga GenZ, at kapag deep search mo, siya si Bathsheba, even bible scholars say still its a mystery on how and why, Matthew did not mention her name, sabi ng iba, its because of David committed adultery. Totoo naman, David committed adultery that resulted the pregnancy of Bathsheba who bares a boy who became King Solomon, at ang huli ay si Maria, Virgin Mary, at dito pansinin natin, the way Matthew narrated the Fathers and sons, pero pagdating kay Maria, ang binanggit ay si Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, gets mo? o hindi, lahat ng tatay, ang kasunod ay anak na lalaki, ngunit si Hesus, ayon sa pagkakasulat, Si Jose na asawa ni Maria nagmula si Hesus dahil si Hesus ay born of the Holy Spirit, galing 'di ba? Because, Jesus is the Son of God. Amen.
Masalimuot ang kwento nina Tamar, Rahab, Ruth at Bathsheba, gayun din kay Maria, sabihin na nating Jesus came from a broken family, yes, but I rather say Broken People, hinuhusgahan ng marami ang mga babaeng ito pero sabi nga, God uses Broken People to accomplish His Good Purpose - Bring Jesus.
Be Kind, Jesus came to show you, and your broken family, (sabi mo) God loves us, He gave His Son. not for you to be judged. but to have life.
Merry Christmas.
Matthew the Apostle, also known as Levi, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus and is traditionally recognized as the author of the Gospel of Matthew.
Key Facts and Life Original Name & Family: He is called Levi in the Gospels of Mark and Luke, identified as the son of Alphaeus. "Matthew" (meaning "Gift of God") is believed to be his Christian name or a second name given after he began following Jesus.
Former Profession: Before his calling, he was a tax collector (publican) in Capernaum. This was a despised profession among Jews because tax collectors were seen as traitors collaborating with the Roman Empire.
The Calling: Jesus famously called him while he was sitting at his tax booth with the simple command, "Follow me." Matthew immediately left his work and possessions to follow him.
Evangelist & Author: He is one of the four Evangelists. His Gospel was written primarily for a Jewish audience, emphasizing Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.
Symbolism in Art: In Christian iconography, Matthew is often accompanied by a winged man (or angel), symbolizing the focus of his Gospel on Jesus' humanity and genealogy.
Ministry and Death
Post-Resurrection: After Jesus' Ascension, tradition states Matthew preached in Judea for several years before traveling to other lands, including Ethiopia, Persia, and Syria.
Martyrdom: While some accounts suggest he died of natural causes, most traditions state he was martyred. Common accounts claim he was stabbed with a spear or sword while celebrating Mass in Ethiopia.
Relics: His remains are believed to be interred in the crypt of the Salerno Cathedral in southern Italy.
Commemoration Feast Day: Celebrated on September 21 in Western Christianity and November 16 in Eastern Christianity.
Patronage: He is the patron saint of accountants, bankers, tax collectors, bookkeepers, and financial officers.
The Gospel According to Matthew was written sometime after The Gospel According to Mark was written, before the imprisonement of Paul in Rome
NOTE: THE VERY FIRST BOOK WRITTEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS THE EPISTLE OF JAMES (James is the half brother of Jesus) before the event of the death of James the son of Zebedee 44 A.D.
