Josh and Bernadeth sat down again, still in their refreshed clothes from the November start. Sige Kuya, anong next? Bernadeth asked. Josh opened to a familiar but heavy passage. Luke 10:25-37. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Josh answered.

A Samaritan man helping a wounded traveler on the roadside while others walk past

Bernadeth read the story carefully. A man was attacked, stripped, beaten, and left half dead. A priest saw him and passed by on the other side. A Levite did the same. Then a Samaritan, someone expected to be the enemy, came near, felt compassion, bandaged his wounds, put him on his own animal, and took care of him. Yung expected na tutulong, hindi. Yung hindi expected, siya pa 'yung tumigil. Bernadeth observed. Oo. At doon nagbago 'yung tanong. Hindi na “Sino ang kapitbahay ko?” kundi “Kanino ako naging kapitbahay?” Josh continued. They sat with the reversal for a moment. Parang ang challenge, hindi lang sino ang deserving ng tulong. Kundi, handa ba akong laging tumutulong? Bernadeth added. Tama. 'Yung mercy hindi limited sa kapareho natin. Josh noted.

Why It Matters in 2026

In a divided time, this parable still presses the same question. It is easy to decide in advance who deserves help and who does not. The story refuses that shortcut. It places the wounded person in front of us and asks whether we will cross the road. The gospel spreads not only through words but through costly, practical mercy that refuses to stay on the safe side of the road.

Bernadeth closed the Bible gently. O Kuya, saan 'yung susunod? she asked. Buksan mo sa Luke 15:11-32. Doon 'yung Parable of the Prodigal Son. Josh replied. → We continue with The Parable of the Prodigal Son tomorrow Hindi lang 'yung tanong kung sino ang kapitbahay ko. 'Yung mas mahalagang tanong: Kanino ako naging kapitbahay? 'Yung pagsisikap nating magbahagi ng Magandang Balita ay kasama rin ang pagtawid sa kabilang side ng daan para tumulong nang totoo.
